Powering & Connecting Tally

How do I connect to power?

Your Tally package includes everything you need to power your device

  • A 110-volt USB-A wall adapter
  • A USB-A to USB-C power cable

If you don't have access to a wall outlet for your event, you may purchase portable USB battery packs (we recommend 10,000mAh batteries for typically about 8 hours of power) for use with your Tally unit. Please ensure full charge and purchase a backup battery pack for events longer than your battery's life.

Setup Step-by-Step:
  1. Connect your Tally to your power source: Connect the power cable to the device and to the included 110-volt wall adapter or your portable battery pack (not included).
  2. Plug it in: If you are not using a portable battery pack, plug your wall adapter into a wall outlet.
    1. Doesn't quite reach? Use an extension cord or replace the provided USB cable with a longer one (must be rated to deliver at least 2.4 amps of current).
    2. If you need to use a different wall adapter, ensure it delivers at least 2.4 amps of power. Weaker adapters will negatively impact the device's performance.
  3. Confirm power: The device automatically turns on when plugged in. Scan the QR code on the device or visit your device management page to view connection and sync status. (Note: To maintain a fully weatherproof exterior, there are no external status lights on the device.)

Optional Wi-Fi Connection

Tally is designed for simplicity. We recommend connecting to a public or owned Wi-Fi network; however, if you do not connect to a Wi-Fi network, your device will automatically transmit data via a cellular network as soon as it is powered on. In some buildings where cell signal is weak (for example, convention centers), we recommend connecting to Wi-Fi for the best performance.

Follow the steps below to add your network to your device:

  1. Scan the QR code on the device to visit your device management page.
  2. Click on your device, then click the "Settings" gear in the top right corner. You should see settings such as zone assignment, Tally mode, and Wi-Fi Network options.
  3. Click "Edit" beside the Wi-Fi Network option. If you do not see this option available in your device management page, please email [email protected] with your wifi details and we can set you up remotely.
  4. Enter your network and password details, then save.

Please note: Wi-Fi networks that require a secondary login page, for example in a pop up or browser, after connection will not work to keep your Tally connected. The network must be public or owned without a secondary login.

Confirm Connection

The device automatically transmits data as soon as it's plugged in. Scan the QR code on the device to visit your device management page to view connection and sync status. (Note: To maintain a fully weatherproof exterior, there are no external status lights on the device.)

If your device is successfully connected to Wi-Fi, the connection will show as "Connected: Wi-Fi":

If your device is connected to a cellular network, the connection will show as "5G":
